Afghanistan-uka 2014 er den første i det som forhåpentligvis blir en tradisjon. I denne uka er Norges Afghanistan-krefter i sving. Forskermiljøene, norske organisasjoner som jobber i og med Afghanistan, afghanske kulturforeninger og en rekke andre aktører bidrar med seminarer, debatter og kulturarrangementer i et stort og variert program. Både internasjonale og afghanske forskere tar veien til Norge for å ta plass i paneler og bak talerstoler. Hovedbidragsytere til årets program er Afghanistankomiteen, Chr. Michelsens institutt (CMI) og Institutt for fredsforskning (PRIO). Afghanistankomiteen er initiativtaker og koordinator for uka. Uka blir gjennomført med støtte fra Fritt Ord og Norad.

In October last year, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will cut humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan by 7 percent in the 2014 national budget. The cut is a result of what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sees as a breach of promise to ensure women’s rights. The proposed ‘anti-women gag law’ has caused international stir. What does the future hold for Afghanistan’s women?
